Building regulations and planning for windows, doors and staircases

Replacing windows and doors is among the jobs that need building regulations approval, GOV.UK says, and without approval you will not have the certificates of compliance you may need when you sell your home. A new staircase in a home has to meet Approved Document K: each rise 150mm to 220mm, each going 220mm to 300mm, a pitch of no more than 42 degrees, twice the rise plus the going between 550mm and 700mm, and at least 2m of headroom over the flights and landings.
